Taguig stops new crematory

The local government of Taguig has stopped the illegal construction of a crematory building inside the Heritage Park in Fort Bonifacio which was being undertaken in the absence of proper permits.

Three officials of Rosehills Memorial Management Philippines Inc., which serves as park administrator and which has been tapped to pursue the development of interment lots at Heritage Park, were invited to the Taguig police station for questioning.

Construction allegedly started last month despite the absence of a locational clearance, excavation permit and building permit. About two weeks ago, Heritage Park was issued by the Local Building Official (LBO) a notice to stop construction.

An LBO team headed by Rey Villanueva visited the site the other day and were surprised to find out that construction was at full blast. Villanueva warned Rosehills that it has to stop the construction or the municipal government will be forced to apprehend project officials for violation of the law.

Yesterday, Villanueva’s team again visited the site and discovered that instead of heeding their order, construction of the crematory building was being continued.

Construction was then halted and Minerva Rosel, project architect, Antonio Salvado project engineer, and Joey Cariaga, facilities management officer were brought to the police station for questioning.

Proper charges are being readied against Rosehills for the illegal construction.

It was learned that the park’s application for permits are pending amidst Heritage Park’s delinquency in the payment of reel property taxes for the past three years which amounts to millions in pesos.
