The fatality was identified as Armando de la Cruz, 40, of Sto. Domingo street, Holy Spirit. He suffered bullet wounds in the body and died on the spot. Recovered from him was a caliber .38 revolver.
Victim PO2 Jose Ormilla, assigned at the Central Police District Station 6, is now in critical condition at the East Avenue Medical Center.
According to Chief Inspector Rodolfo Jaraza of the CPD-Intelligence Unit, De la Cruz, who is wanted for the slaying of his uncle a few days earlier, went on a shooting rampage against arresting cops.
Records showed that the incident took place at around 12:10 p.m. at the suspects address in Sto. Domingo. De la Cruz allegedly killed his own uncle last Jan. 4 in Barangay Commonwealth.
Policemen from Station 6 arrived at the scene and ordered the suspect to surrender. De la Cruz, however, took out his gun and fired at the cops. PO2 Ormilla was hit on the chest.
Operatives of the Intelligence Unit immediately arrived to help. PO3 Byron Antonio managed to gain entrance inside the gunman's house and shot him several times in the body. He died instantly.
Meanwhile, another policeman is now in serious condition after a neighbor repeatedly stabbed him while attending a wake the other night near their home in Diliman, Quezon City.
PO1 Armado Peralta, 27, assigned at the National Capital Regional Police Office, is currently confined at the Labor Hospital after sustaining multiple stab wounds in the back.
The suspect, Kenneth Pallorina, 23, also suffered injuries after other residents chased him and beat him up. He is now receiving medical treatment at the East Avenue Medical Center.
Investigators said Peralta was attending a friends wake at about 10:35 p.m. in Pook Ricarte inside the UP campus in Diliman. Pallorina, armed with a bladed weapon, suddenly lunged toward the victim and stabbed him several times in the back.
