Police arrested the other night a barangay watchman after he stabbed an Army sergeant just for kicks in Quezon City.
Victim Marlon Peralta, a staff sergeant of the Philippine Army and a resident of V. Luna Road, suffered a stab wound in the stomach and is currently receiving treatment at the East Avenue Medical Center.
Suspect Lito Barrozo, 31, reportedly a barangay tanod is now detained at the Central Police District headquarters waiting for charges to be filed against him. Investigators said Peralta was walking with a companion near Barrozos home on Malakas Street, Barangay Pinyahan at about 11:15 p.m. when they came upon the suspect and his friends who were having a drinking session. Barrozo suddenly blocked the victims path and punched him in the face. The suspect then took out a bladed weapon and stabbed him in the lower abdomen.
Peraltas companion intervened and Barrozo fled the scene. The victim was rushed to the hospital while the suspect was arrested a few hours later by responding policemen.
Meanwhile, a veteran Manila policeman, responding to a commotion inside a videoke bar in Sampaloc, Manila, landed in a hospital Wednesday night after he was stabbed by one of the men he was trying to arrest.
Senior Police Officer 1 Fernando Algas, 45, detailed at the Sibama police community precinct, has been declared out of danger but still under observation at the UST Hospital. Algas sustained a stab wound in the right side of the body.
Responding policemen, led by Senior Inspector Manuel de Guzman, nabbed suspects Doroteo Dig, 46, driver, of Galas, Quezon City and Rodrigo Dinglasan, 26, a student, of 665-A Doña Maria street, Sta. Mesa, Manila.
Witnesses pointed to Dig as the one who stabbed the policeman, who was investigating a commotion inside the Night Dreamer Videoke Bar at the corner of Maceda and Simon streets in Sampaloc.
