NBI Director Reynaldo Wycoco identified the raided establishment as the Salton International Corp., located at 74 De Jesus Street, San Antonio, Quezon City. The firm is managed by a certain Joseph Tan, the NBI said.
According to Wycoco, prior to the raid, the NBI received a complaint from Command Electric Corp., which is the registered owner of the "Eagle" brand of electrical devices, about the alleged proliferation of electrical devices illegally bearing their trademark.
Acting on the complaint, the NBI, through its Special Action Unit, immediately conducted surveillance operations. The surveillance operations, the NBI said, confirmed that Salton International Corp., was indeed involved in the distribution of wiring devices, fuses, starters, receptacles and outlets that illegally bear the "Eagle" brand.
With a search warrant issued by Manila Regional Trial Court Judge Antonio Eugenio, agents of the NBI-SAU conducted the raid. The seized items were then taken to a warehouse in Pasig City for safekeeping, the NBI said.
Charges for trademark infringement have been filed against the owners and managers of the raided firm, the NBI said. Mike Frialde
