2 dead, 1 hurt in Intramuros shooting

-
A bitter family feud in Mindanao led to the fatal shooting of two men and the wounding of another in Intramuros, Manila yesterday afternoon.

The Western Police District (WPD) identified the fatalities as Armando Makapigis and his companion Peter Felix Lidsana. Makapigis died at the Ospital ng Maynila after being shot in the face while Lidsana died at the Philippine General Hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound in the neck.

Police said Makapigis’ brother, Gamal-al, is still recuperating at the Ospital ng Maynila for a bullet wound in the stomach.

According to the WPD, the brothers are sons of Kahir Makapigis, reportedly a former mayor in Maguindanao.

Responding policemen later arrested the suspect, 22-year-old Usof Kamid, after a brief chase that ended near the Jones Bridge.

Initial investigation showed that the victims were walking near the Palacio del Gobernador building at about 11:30 a.m. when Kamid, armed with a caliber .45 pistol, suddenly appeared and opened fire at them.

The burst of gunfire attracted the attention of elements of the Special Action Force detailed at the nearby Commission on Elections building.

A chase then ensued with Kamid exchanging gunshots with pursuing policemen before finally yielding.

When collared by the police, Kamid said he shot the three men because of a long-standing feud between his family and theirs, whom he claims belonged to a political family in Matanog, Maguindanao.

The suspect is now detained at the Ermita police station. Mike Frialde
