Korean nabbed for bribing traffic cop

A Korean and his Filipino driver were arrested by police yesterday for trying to bribe a traffic policeman with P10,000 they were flagged down for using an unregistered car in Quezon City.

Police also seized the Starex Van allegedly owned by the Korean, identified as Hyun Tae Park, who listed his temporary address at 380 Quirino Highway, Sangandaan, Novaliches, Quezon City.

Traffic Management Group (TMG) policemen were conducting anti-car theft operations along Timog Avenue at around 4 a.m. yesterday when they spotted the Starex with fake license plates.

When flagged down, the driver, identified as Rolyn Ramos, of Barangay Sta. Monica, Novaliches, failed to present any documents for the van.

He also admitted that the license plates XBK-512 on the van were not the original license plates (WMG-626).

Park later intervened and tried to bribe the apprehending policemen with P10,000, which he handed over to the police along with photocopies of the van’s original receipt and certificate of registration.

Criminal charges are being readied against the suspects. The vehicle was temporarily impounded at the TMG headquarters in Camp Crame.

TMG officials said police are still coordinating with the Bureau of Immigration (BID) to determine the legality of Park’s stay in the country.
