2 killed in bike mishap

Two men riding tandem on a motorcycle were killed after they slammed into a concrete post while cruising the flyover linking the Pandacan and Sta. Mesa districts early yesterday morning.

Police identified the victims as Roberto Cartober, 31, an employee of Excel Quality and a resident of 2327 Aquamarine Street, San Andres Bukid, Manila; and Jason Abaril, 21, also a resident of San Andres.

Initial police investigation showed that the victims were riding on a red Honda motorcycle with plate number UA-2703 at about 4:15 a.m. when the accident happened on the Sta. Mesa bound lane of the Fr. Jacinto Zamora fly-over. The flyover is located near the Nagtahan Bridge along the President Quirino Avenue.

Police said the motorcycle suddenly lost control and slammed into a concrete electrical post. The impact threw the victims, who were not wearing helmets, off the motorcycle and into the pavement.

Cartober died while undergoing treatment at the Lourdes Hospital while Abaril was declared dead on arrival at the same hospital. police said. – Mike Frialde
