One was killed while two others were wounded when a group of young men went on a stabbing spree in Tondo, Manila yesterday morning.
Homicide investigators of the Western Police District identified the fatality as Roberto Marcellana, 51, a carpenter residing at 525 Benita St., Gagalangin, Tondo. Those wounded were May Manaiad, 22, and Joseph Fermiza, 24, also residents of Gagalangin.
The police said the victims were chatting outside Fermizas house shortly after midnight of Sunday when a group of young men arrived and challenged everyone to a stabbing fight.
Marcellana intervened and tried to pacify the group, which included a neighbor, Alvin Cuenca, 21. But instead of calming down, Cuenca allegedly pulled out a fan knife and stabbed Marcellana in his side.
Another member of the group, identified only as a certain Bernard, was allegedly the one who stabbed Manaiad and Fermiza as they tried to stop Cuenca.
Marcellana died on arrival at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center where Manaiad and Fermiza were also rushed for treatment.
Investigators are still checking if the suspects were high on drugs. The suspects fled after the incident. Mike Frialde
