Chika Go assassin in jailbreak try?

Victor Macaldo, the suspected triggerman in the slaying of former Manila Councilor Chika Go, allegedly tried to escape from his cell at the headquarters of the Western Police District (WPD) Monday night.

Manila police said Macaldo, with the help of fellow inmate, Romeo Valenzuela, a snatcher, tried to escape by sawing off the bars of their cell at the WPD Integrated Jail at around 8 p.m.

Police said Valenzuela was caught by duty guards using a hacksaw on the bars. The cell is facing San Marcelino Street, making it easy for him to escape once the bars are cut off.

When questioned, Valenzuela pointed to Macaldo as the one who plotted the escape try. He also told police that Macaldo promised to pay him should they successfully break free.

However, Macaldo denied Valenzuela’s allegations, saying he had no plans of escaping.

Macaldo was arrested last Sept. 1 in Tayuman. Elements of the WPD District Police Intelligence Unit seized from the suspect a 9-mm pistol with 12 bullets and a cal .22 pistol fitted with a silencer.

According to the WPD-DPIU, Macaldo admitted of being a hired killer. He also told DPIU policemen that he was the one who shot Go in Binondo, on Aug. 10.
