The suspected hitman in the killing of former Manila Councilor Chika Go has been arrested by elements of the Western Police District-District Police Intelligence Unit following a tip from an informant.
Police said they nabbed alleged gun-for-hire Victor Macaldo, 27, of Maryhomes Subdivision, Molino, Bacoor, Cavite inside the Jollibee fastfood branch at the corner of Tayuman Street and Rizal Avenue last Saturday.
According to SPO4 Benjamin Nuguid of the WPD-DPIU, they received a tip about the presence of a hitman who was waiting for his contact inside the fastfood restaurant.
Elements of the DPIU were dispatched and they chanced upon Macaldo while relieving himself inside the restroom of the fastfood outlet. Seized from the suspect was a 9-mm pistol and a caliber .22 pistol with silencer.
When questioned, Macaldo admitted being the one who shot Go last Aug. 10 in Binondo, Manila. Police said Macaldo refused to reveal the identity of the individual who paid him to do the job.
Nuguid admitted that while Macaldo did not match an earlier police sketch of the suspect, he was positively identified by the lone witness, a street vendor, as the one who shot Go.
Go, 47, who served as a Manila third district councilor from 1992-1995, was driving to his condominium along Reina Regente Street aboard his light brown Mitsubishi Pajero van (WGU-768) when he was caught in heavy traffic at 1:25 p.m.
As the van slowed to a stop past the Reina Regente bridge, a lone assailant walked to the van and fired at Go with a caliber .45 pistol. After the shooting, the gunman escaped from the scene aboard a motorcycle.
Police said Go, who was seated in the back seat had just visited his mother Su Kin Go at the Chinese General Hospital where she was confined.
Go was rushed to the Metropolitan Hospital where he died an hour later while undergoing surgery for five gunshot wounds in various parts of the body.
