The 52 out-of-school youths were given the task after completing a Junior Police two-week seminar and on-the-job training under the program dubbed "Police and Out-of-School Youths, Partners in Peace and Order."
"Aside from giving them a decent source of income, these junior policemen will help regular traffic enforcers maintain the smooth flow of traffic, especially in congested areas," Superintendent Dionicio Borromeo, one of the project’s proponents, said.
Borromeo said that the city police, under Senior Superintendent Benjardi Mantele, had entered into an agreement with the Jadewell Parking System Corp., tasked to implement the city’s on-street parking, to employ some of the junior police as parking attendants.
Mayor Reynaldo Malonzo, for his part, urged the junior police, particularly those who finished high school, to take qualifying examinations for college education from the Caloocan City Polytechnic College (CCPC).
Malonzo said those who will qualify, will be given scholarship by the school and those who want to become regular policemen will be given the opportunity as he is planning to open a Police Science Course at the CCPC.
Malonzo further said that more batches of out-of-school youths will complete their training as junior police soon and they would be tapped to help the local government in its campaign to promote its clean and green program.
