QC celebrates Councilors Week

A series of community services, sports and fellowship activities have been lined up in Quezon City for the observance of Philippine Councilors Week, (Sept.1-7), to be highlighted by a State of the City Address by Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr., on Tuesday.
Mandated under Presidential Proclamation No. 212, the event aims to spotlight the significance of local legislation in local governance, and to enjoin public support for the effective implementation of city and municipal ordinances, according to over-all celebration chairman Jorge Banal and majority floor leader Jesus Suntay.
The week-long celebration starts today with televised Sunday masses sponsored by the Philippines Councilors League at 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. with councilors and other government officials as lectors.
The launching day on Monday will have the city councilors joining Belmonte and Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista in flag-raising ceremonies to be followed by the ribbon-cutting of a livelihood fair and job fair at the City Hall covered walk. Also lined up is the ceremonial tree-planting at the Quezon Memorial Circle to be attended by members of the Citys Peace and Order Council.
Also featured are the first of a two-part livelihood skills seminar and a fellowship dinner to be hosted by Bautista on the evening of the third day; barangay clean-up day on the fourth day; blood pressure taking, blood-letting, diet counseling and the the second part of the livelihood skills seminar on the fifth day; and the start of an inter-office sports competition and a noontime First Friday Mass on the sixth day.
The final day will see the city councilors, together with the mayor, the vice mayor and the members of the Citys Peace and Order Council, visiting and bringing gifts to the wards of the citys Molave Youth Homes, the Tahanan Rehabilitation Center and inmates of the city jail. Awarding of trophies and prizes to the winners in the inter office sports competition will be held in the afternoon.
Co-chaired by councilor Wencerom B Lagumbay, the QC-PCL Week Celebration Committee includes councilors Wilma Sarino, Elizabeth Delarmente, Mary Ann Susano, Franz Pumaren, Eric Rey Medina, Antonio Inton, Vincent Crisologo, Victor Ferrer, Restituto Malañgen, Franciso Almario and Junie Marie Castelo.
Among the support groups are the offices of the mayor, the vice mayor, the QC Industrial Relations Office, QC Sikap Buhay and the city health department.
