Burglars hit BIR
August 27, 2002 | 12:00am
Burglars broke into the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) building at the Port Area in Manila Sunday night, carting away valuables belonging to employees.
Initial police investigation showed that the burglars broke into the office of Zenaida Garcia, a revenue district officer, through the ceiling at 9:30 p.m. The office is located at the 10th floor of the building.
The break-in was only discovered at 6:30 a.m. yesterday by Evelinda Signey, an employee, when she opened the office and saw several table drawers already opened. She also noticed an opening in the ceiling.
Police said the burglars took with them a mini-component.
Investigators said they are not discounting the possibility that the suspects staged the heist to mask their real intentions, presumably the theft of documents in the office. Mike Frialde
