Sweeper’s death baffles police

Investigators of the Western Police District (WPD) homicide section are baffled by the fatal shooting yesterday of an employee of a waste disposal firm.

Police identified the victim as Dante Alfonso, 40, of 450 Amelia Street, Sampaloc and a sweeper of the Leonel Waste Management.

Witnesses said the victim was on his bicycle in Tondo, Manila when two unidentified men shot him. Police said Alfonso died on the spot after being shot four times in the head.

Alfonso was at the corner of Juan Luna and Maria Hizon streets, on his way to work, when the suspects, riding tandem aboard a red motorcycle, blocked his path at 4:15 a.m.

Without warning, one of the suspects pulled out a pistol and shot the victim at close range. – Mike Frialde
