Police arrested yesterday morning a physician after he shot and seriously injured a 34-year-old mentally deranged man at a gasoline station on West Avenue, Quezon City.
Suspect Rizalino Jose, a practicing doctor at several hospitals in the city, and a resident of 51 Flora St., San Francisco Del Monte, was detained at the Central Police District headquarters.
The victim, identified as Constancio Danuco, of Talisay Street, Payatas, sustained a bullet wound in the body and is now confined at the Quezon City General Hospital.
According to SPO1 Reynaldo Montefalcon, officer-on-case, Danuco was shot after he allegedly hurled a rock at the doctors white Nissan California car and shattered its windshield.
The doctor was armed with a licensed .45 caliber revolver at the time. Reports showed that the incident took place at about 10:30 a.m. at a Shell Gasoline Station on West Avenue, Quezon City.
Jose, together with his wife, was gassing up the vehicle when Danuco, who reportedly is suffering from mental problems, suddenly appeared.
The victim allegedly picked up a rock and hurled it at Joses car shattering the windshield. The irate physician alighted from his vehicle and confronted Danuco.
The victim however, reportedly lunged towards Jose and tried to attack him prompting the latter to pull out his firearm and shoot Danuco twice, hitting him in the right side of the chest.
The victim was taken to the hospital while Jose surrendered to responding policemen. Matthew Estabillo
