Victim Danilo Pasquin, 36, of 137 West Avenue, Bungad, Quezon City, sustained multiple stab wounds in the different parts of the body and was pronounced dead on arrival at the East Avenue Medical Center.
The suspect, identified as Jordan Ocate, also of the same address, escaped right after the killing. He was armed with a fan knife at the time.
Police sources said Pasquin and the suspect were the best of friends until a dispute over a card game a few nights ago. Ocate had accused the victim of being a "cheater" and they have been giving each other the cold shoulder since then.
Initial reports showed that the incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. right in front of their home in West Avenue. Pasquin was having a drinking session with some people when the suspect walked by. Intending to settle the grudge with his friend, the victim kindly offered Ocate a glass of beer and asked him to join them for some drinks. Instead of thanking Pasquin and making up, the suspect suddenly pulled out a knife and without saying anything, lunged toward the victim and stabbed him several times in the chest and abdomen.
Ocate immediately fled the scene leaving his bleeding friend sprawled on the ground. Pasquins drinking buddies brought him to the hospital where he died at 1:15 p.m. Matthew Estabillo
