Taxi driver shot dead by robbers

A 22-year-old taxi driver was mugged and shot dead by robbers inside his taxicab in Muntinlupa City Friday.

The victim was identified as Jefferson Espino, married, a resident of 122 F. Benitez St., Cubao, Quezon City.

Espino’s bullet-riddled body was found in a vacant lot along Zapote Road in Muntinlupa City by an unidentified security guard at around 1 a.m. last Friday. Espino was on board his Isuzu Hi-Lander taxi when the robbers flagged down his vehicle. Investigators are looking at robbery as the motive because the victim’s vehicle as well as his cash and jewelry were all missing.

In Taguig, a carpenter was shot to death after hitting a man with a slab of wood. Elias Ampaso, of Building F-5, Barangay Maharlika Village, Taguig, died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds in the body.

Based on the investigation of the Taguig police, the incident took place at around 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Maharlika Village.

The victim was sitting with his friends on the street when the suspect, a certain Toks Angas, of Sucat Parañaque City, passed by and pointed his gun at them.

After a few minutes, Ampaso got a slab of wood and hit the suspect with it.

The suspect fought back and during the course of the melee, he took out his gun and shot Ampaso. Police are still looking for the suspect who immediately fled the scene after the incident.

Also in Taguig,, a four-year-old girl was ran-over by a speeding train yesterday.
