Muntinlupa City wins NDCC award

-
In recognition of the city’s active role in risk mitigation, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) of the Office of Civil Defense recently picked Muntinlupa as Best in Disaster Preparedness among all Local Government Units in the National Capital Region.

Oscar Oquendo, head of the Muntinlupa City Disaster Coordinating Council (MCDCC) said though the city did not bag the national level award which went to Olongapo City, the NCR citation is good enough to show the city’s high quality standards in executing disaster preparedness plans and programs.

Johnny Yu of the NDCC-NCR said the Muntinlupa will be notified of the awarding ceremony’s date and venue which will probably take place at Malacañang.

The nationwide search was held in celebration of the National Disaster Consciousness Month observed yearly during July. The NCDD also conducts the search for best heroic acts or extraordinary acts of bravery or heroic deeds.

Oquendo said Muntinlupa was cited for its several intercommunity activities highly participated in by youths to solve the problem of flooding by undertaking sagip-ilog and linis- canal activities.

He said the MCDCC has a good organizational structure which had made all its disaster preparedness plans systematic. There is also no recorded casualty or accident in the city in the current years though the city is hit by heavy rains and prolonged rainfall.

Oquendo said the city has always complied with the NDCC’s projects, programs and activities to likewise improve its local endeavors.
