Barangay Captain’s aide mauled in Quiapo

Politics can breed an ugly head, even if the votes have been counted.

A supporter aide of an elected barangay captain in Quiapo, Manila, was allegedly mauled and nearly killed by alleged supporters of a defeated candidate yesterday morning.

Senior Police Officer 4 Boy Sakilayan of the Sta. Cruz police station identified the victim as Salipado Momoro, 42, of 824 Globo de Oro Street, Quiapo.

According to investigators, Momoro was walking near the Barter Trade Center near the Quiapo Islamic Center at about 9 a.m. when he was suddenly accosted by at least 10 unidentified men.

Police said the victim was grabbed and shoved into an empty stall. Inside, police said the suspects locked the stall’s door and allegedly mauled the victim.

Momoro told police that after he was mauled, the suspects allegedly whipped-out a knife and allegedly threatened to kill him. It was at this point that the victim started screaming for help.

Passersby then heard the victim’s screams and rushed to the stall. Police said the crowd then fooled the suspects into thinking that policemen were already on the site to rescue the victim. Police said the suspects then rushed out of the stall, leaving the injured victim behind.

Investigators are still tracking down Momoro’s attackers.

Meanwhile, a Taiwanese businessman was abducted and robbed by armed men in Makati City early yesterday.

Superintendent Jose Salido, Makati City police Criminal Investigation Division chief, identified the victim as Ushin An Chuang, 43, a resident of 3859 General Macabulos St. in Barangay Bangkal, Makati City.

Reports said the victim was on board his wife’s Mazda GLXI sedan when another car blocked their path.

Three armed men emerged from the vehicle and ordered the Taiwanese out of his car.

The suspects took the Nokia 8850 mobile phone of Chuang, two solid gold rings with diamonds and P3,000 in cash.

After divesting him of his belongings, the suspects tied up the Taiwanese and ordered him to board their vehicle. The victim was later dropped off along 18th Street of Barangay Sto. Niño in Parañaque City unharmed. – Mike Frialde and Marvin Sy
