Victim Rodolfo Diolinio, of 6832 Sto. Nino St., Barangay Maligaya, Caloocan City, sustained stab wounds in the body and was pronounced dead at the Novaliches General Hospital.
His younger brother Marlon, 27, a "passenger barker" also of the same address, is now detained at the Central Police District headquarters.
Investigators said that Rodolfo was under the influence of liquor when he told Marlon that it was his turn to call for passengers at the passenger jeepney terminal. The suspect claimed that he killed his brother in self-defense.
According to PO1 Joseph Madrid, officer-in-case, the incident took place at about 12:45 p.m. along Geronimo street in Villa Verde Subdivision, Novaliches, Quezon City.
Marlon was apparently going about his work when his brother appeared reeking of gin. Rodolfo demanded that he be allowed to take over the suspects job.
Marlon refused and a heated argument followed. At one point, the victim took a piece of rock and bashed it over the suspects head. Marlon fought back and stabbed the victim with a barbecue stick on the shoulder and neck.
Rodolfo was then taken to the hospital where he died at about 2 p.m. Responding policemen arrived on the scene and arrested the suspect.
Meanwhile, police arrested last Sunday a 30 year-old auto mechanic after he stabbed to death his drinking buddy after the latter insisted in having more "beer" during the liquor ban.
Vincent George Redor, 34, of 29 Abra St., Bago Bantay, Barangay Magsaysay, suffered stab wounds in the body and expired while receiving medical treatment at the JP Sioson Hospital.
Suspect Charlie Teves, also of the same address, is now under police custody. He was the victims landlord.
Initial reports showed that the two were having a drinking spree inside their home at about 5:10 p.m. when Teves announced that they should call it off because of the liquor ban.
Redor, however, refused and insisted that they buy more liquor. An argument ensued and Teves, in a fit of anger, stabbed the victim twice on the left side of his chest. Matthew Estabillo
