Pasig cop caught with shabu faces dismissal

-
A policeman who yielded 96 grams of shabu from his belt bag while on duty at the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) of the Eastern Police District (EPD) may soon be dismissed from the service.

Metro Manila police chief Deputy Director General Edgar Aglipay ordered the holding of summary dismissal proceedings yesterday against P02 Elmer Ramos of the EPD-DEU who was caught red-handed Thursday by his superior officer while in possession of 96 grams of shabu.

Aglipay also said Superintendent Romeo Abaring should be given the "Medalya ng Kagalingan" for carrying out the immediate arrest of Ramos. "Abaring should be rewarded for taking the lead in arresting one of his men which is not an easy task," said Aglipay.

Aglipay directed EPD director Chief Superintendent Rolando Sacramento to convene a board of officers that will conduct summary dismissal proceedings against Ramos, who was also charged with possession of illegal drugs before the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office.

Reports said Ramos was asleep inside the DEU office at the EPD annex building located along Meralco Avenue when Abaring opened the zipper of his belt bag which yielded the shabu.

Initially, Ramos, Abaring said, admitted ownership of the seized drugs. But he change his tune after talking to his lawyer.

According to Abaring, Ramos has been reporting for work on board luxury vehicles like BMW, Subaru, Mitsubishi Adventure and a Honda Civic. However, he would park his vehicle at a safe distance and walk to the office on foot so as not to attract attention, he said. - Non Alquitran
