Drunk in fatal fall

Alcohol and heights can be a dangerous mix.
A 33-year-old laborer accidentally fell to his death during a round of drinks with his relatives in Tondo, Manila, early morning yesterday.
Homicide investigators of the Western Police District identified the victim as victim Gerardo Elona, of Unit 733 Tenement Building, Vitas, Tondo.
Initial investigation showed that the victim was drinking with his relatives at the terrace of his tenement unit at about 12:20 a.m.
During the drinking, police said the victim got up from his chair and leaned on the railing.
Police said Elonas relatives were later shocked to see the victim plunging seven floors to the pavement below.
Bystanders rushed Elona to the Philippine General Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
Police theorized that the victim, because of intoxication, lost his balance when he leaned on the railing and fell to his death. Mike Frialde
