Crackdown vs illegal tricycles

Las Piñas Mayor Vergel "Nene" Aguilar has directed the local Tricycle Regulatory Unit (TRU) to strictly implement City Ordinance 548 which regulates the operation of tricycles in the city in a move to eradicate colorum operators.
About 5,000 units of motorized tricycles will be covered by the ordinance which was approved last March by the Las Piñas City Council.
Aguilar said the ordinance, aside from limiting to five the allowable number of tricycles for each operator, will also prevent non- Las Piñas residents from operating tricycles in the city.
Aguilar explained the implementation of the ordinance should put an end to irregularities and "favoritism in granting franchises" to unit operators and owners involving certain tricycle association officers.
"We are doing this campaign to put an order to the issuance of franchises and to stop irregularities and corruption as well as manage the traffic situation in the city. I enjoined all the tricycle operators to support the ordinance," Aguilar said in a statement.
Tricycle Regulatory Unit chief Ado Aguilar announced that applications for new franchises are now being accepted at the TRU Office located at the 2F of the Administrative Building, Las Piñas City Hall Compound.
For an efficient issuance of franchise application forms, tricycle operators with complete requirements will be given priority, he said.
