Tiñga: C-5 road will be lighted
June 25, 2002 | 12:00am
Taguig Mayor Freddie Tiñga announced that C-5 road will be well-lighted and secure from Ortigas Avenue in Pasig City up to the South Expressway in Taguig.
A memorandum of agreement (MOA) covering the project was signed by Tiñga, former Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr.; Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) Chairman Efraim Genuino, Antonio Sta. Elena of the Department of Public Works and Highways-National Capital Region (DPWH-NCR) and Jesus Francisco of the Manila Electric Co.
Tiñga assured that this will put to end complaints about dark portions of the circumferential road. The project will guarantee the installation and full operation of 322 units of 250-watt street lamps in the C-5 center aisles and roadsides.
The project is a collective undertaking of the local government of Taguig, Pagcor, DPWH, MMDA and Meralco.
Under the MOA, Taguig will pay a monthly flat rate of P243,110 for the 322 sodium streetlights.
The project, undertaken by the DPWH-NCR started after the necessary permits and clearances were secured from the local government of Taguig. Meralco will conduct tests to ensure that all the streetlights are working well.
Tiñga said the project was initiated to make the entire stretch of C-5 safe for all motorists and passengers. He expects that crimes against motorists at C-5 would be minimized if not eradicated since the road will not only be well lighted but police presence will be increased to secure the thoroughfare as well. Police sub-stations will also be built along this major thoroughfare.
