Manila honors top citizens tomorrow

In line with the celebration of the 431st Araw ng Maynila tomorrow, the City of Manila honors nine outstanding Manileños and two organizations for their valuable service to the nations capital and its residents.
Senator John Osmeña and Manila Mayor Lito Atienza will confer the honors in a testimonial dinner at the historic Manila Hotel.
To be honored are Col. Antonio Cabangon Chua (Finance and Entrepreneural Leadership); Julie Yap Daza (Journalism); Julie Gutierrez Esguerra (Special Education and Humanitarian Service); Rene George Garcia (Music); Senator Eva Estrada Kalaw (Public and Government Service and Cultural Advocacy); Robert Lee (Public and Government Service); Jose "Pitoy" Moreno (Fashion Design, Arts and Culture); Rannie Santos (Entrepreneurship).
Also to be given honors are the Association of Philippine Volunteer Fire Brigades, Inc., headed by Eddie Kim Hei; and the Association of Volunteer Fire Chiefs and Fire Fighters of the Philippines, Inc., headed by Ricardo Tan. The two groups will be given the Award for Socio-Civic Responsibility in recognition of the volunteer firemen of the city.
This years outstanding Manileños were selected from a list of nominees by a screening committee. Those selected also underwent an interview with members of the committee. Mike Frialde
