Police slay rob suspect in Malabon

One of three holdup suspects was shot dead while another was arrested and a third allegedly escaped with the loot after they robbed a collector of a fish dealer the other day in Barangay Hulong Duhat, Malabon City.

Malabon police chief Superintendent Pedro Ramos said the slain suspect is yet to be identified. He sustained a bullet wound in the head and died on the spot.

Arrested was Edgardo Santos, 31, married, of 13 Karen Street, Gabriel Subdivision in Barangay Hulong Duhat, who allegedly has a string of robbery cases in the city and is now detained. An unidentified companion, believed to have carried the loot with him, managed to escape.

Police said the slain suspect was killed by responding policemen from the Police Community Precinct 5 in a shootout that took place at about 12 noon after a brief chase along Balut Street.

Leonard de Guzman, 26, married, collector, of 226 Celia Street, Bayan-Bayan, Malabon City told investigators that he was walking along Balut Street to deliver to his employer, Teresa Flauni, his collections for the day amounting to some P724,000 when the suspects blocked his path and announced a holdup.– Jerry Botial
