US fugitive arrested in Manila hotel

An American national wanted on charges of fraud and large-scale swindling in the United States was arrested in a small hotel in Manila, police said yesterday.

Nabbed by operatives of the Western Police District General Assignments Section (WPD GAS) was Frederick Joseph Carrier, 50, of Chicago, Illinois.

According to police, Carrier was nabbed at the Jurassic Billiard Inn located along M.H. del Pilar St. in Ermita, at about 10:30 p.m.

Chief Inspector Marcelino Pedrozo, head of the WPD GAS said that prior to the fugitive’s arrest, they received information that Carrier was seen moving from one hotel to another in the Ermita area.

Police said Carrier, also known as Frederick Weber or Carlos White, did not have a valid US passport when he was arrested. Police said Carrier has been wanted in the state of Florida since 1999. He then went to the Philippines to hide.

Carrier was turned over by the WPD to the custody of the Bureau of Immigration for deportation proceedings. – Mike Frialde
