Meanwhile, policemen shot dead the other day an alleged drug-crazed man after he held his two-year-old son hostage near a wet market in Fairview, Quezon City.

Suspect Casiano Suyom, 25, said to be working for the Philippine Ports Authority, sustained a bullet wound in the head and died on the spot.

His two-year-old son, suffered gashes on the neck from his father’s fighting cock guff (tare), and is currently receiving treatment at the East Avenue Medical Center.

A police source said that Suyom may have been high on drugs and was having a "family crisis" which drove him to hold his son hostage. He was about carry out a fatal blow to his son’s neck when he was shot.

Initial reports showed that the incident occurred at about 5 p.m. near a wet market in Barangay Commonwealth in Fairview, Quezon City.

Suyom was walking along the sidewalk while carrying his son when he suddenly shouted obscene words at everyone. At one point, he took out a cock guff and pressed it against his son’s neck.

Policemen arrived at the scene and tried to talk the suspect into giving himself up. But Suyom allegedly started making "impossible demands."

Suyom’s son sustained neck injuries from the guff and the suspect was about to stab him fatally when PO1 Molin Asigurado of the CPD-SWAT team, pulled out his firearm and shot Suyom in the head.

The hostage taker collapsed to the ground and died instantly, while his son was taken to the hospital. Jerry Botial and Matthew Estabillo
