Santiago, militant activist and Bayan Muna Secretary General, stressed the need to conduct a probe since the continued failure of the city hall to settle the amount constituted a gross injustice to thousands of employees who could not avail of benefits granted by GSIS. The outstanding account of the city in premiums has amounted to P42,031,573.59 as of January 2002.
"I hope the mayor would act on this. Some city officials may have been remiss in their duties but this should not be condoned. They must be placed under investigation," he said.
Earlier, Santiago had filed a resolution seeking to conduct a full-dress investigation to find out the cause of the non-remittance of the employees’ GSIS premium contributions. – Jerry Botial
