May 3, 2002 | 12:00am
A security guard of a spare parts shop single-handedly foiled a robbery attempt by three armed men, shooting it out with them and killing one suspect early yesterday morning in Valenzuela City.
Killed on the spot was suspect Nilo Clemente, 25, of El Dorado Heights, Antipolo City. His two companions managed to escape and remain at large, police said.
Valenzuela City police chief Senior Superintendent Leopoldo Urena said the gallant guard who saved the BJ Mercantile, on the service Road in Lawang Bato, Valenzuela City from being robbed was Danilo Figues, 35, of the Mega Force Security Agency.
Urena said the attack occurred at around 4 a.m. as the suspects forced their way inside the firm, which distributes auto and heavy equipment spare parts.
In his account to the police, Figues said he was roving around the compound when he chanced upon Clemente and two of his cohorts sneaking out several expensive spare sparts. He said he fired a warning shot but two of the robbers whipped out their own guns and opened fire at him. He hit Clemente, in the ensuing shootout but the other two managed to escape. Jerry Botial
