A local policeman, three teenage girls and a drug maintainer were caught in the act and were arrested yesterday morning while sniffing shabu in a house maintained by a Chinoy in Caloocan City.
Senior Inspector Jose Valencia, Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) chief, identified the policeman as SPO1 Reynaldo Beano assigned at the Caloocan City Police Sub-Station 2 along A. Del Mundo Street corner 9th Avenue.
Beano was held at the detention cell as charges are being readied against him, while the teeners, all aged 15 and whose identities are being withheld by The STAR, have also been detained pending appropriate action on their case.
The City Prosecutors Office also recommended no bail for the temporary liberty of Modesto Breto y Sy alias "Desto", 35, married, alleged drug den maintainer and resident of 130 P. Sevilla Street between 8th at 9th Avenues, Caloocan City.
Article II, Sectiion 5 of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1972 provides that" the maximum of the penalty shall be imposed in every case where a prohibited drug is administered, delivered or sold to a minor who is allowed to use the same in such place."
Bretos arrest was made on the strength of a search warrant issued by Caloocan City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Silverstre Bello, Jr. (Branch 128) following information that the mans house is allegedly a "drop off" point for illegal drugs and where persons "regularly" met for sniffing sessions.
Police raided Bretos house at around 11:30 a.m. and were surprised to catch the group led by Beano at the height of the sniffing session in a room of the house. Recovered by the raiders were some 22 grams of suspected shabu. Jerry Botial
