Fresnedi, with representatives of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Laguna Lake Development Authority, and other city government officials dispersed some 30,000 tilapia fingerlings in Laguna de Bay to help increase the harvest of fishermen from Tunasan to Sucat.
Lake Management Office (LMO) head Rodolfo Oliquino, project implementor, said the activity was part of the first quarter lake seeding project of the city government.
Fresnedi said they are implementing the Wetland Agro-Forestry project to improve the quality of water in the lake. Special species of trees will be planted along the shore and riverbanks where fish can lay their eggs among the roots. The trees will also help case flooding during typhoons and high tide.
The Wetland Agro-Forestry plan was also presented by the mayor during a summit he recently attended in Hawaii with other Asia-Pacific mayors, and other environment-oriented sectors.
