Barangay e-learning course launched

-
The first barangay on-line e-learning course was launched by the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Tambo, Parañaque under the project, "Batang Tambo, Pang-Mundo."

"With this project, we intend to teach the youths the rudiments of basic Internet, website designing and development, and basic programming, said Tambo SK chairwoman Pia Torres.

Torres said the SK introduce the project in response to the call of President Arroyo to hone the people on information and communication technology.

Supporting the e-learning course are Barangay Tambo chairman Fred de Leon and the Union for Fresh Leadership (U-Lead), a non-government organization composed of former activists who now advocate the teaching of new technologies to Filipino youths.

Torres and De Leon appealed to their constituents to support "this timely project for the youth."

"Barangay Tambo, as the pilot area for this project, will serve as the model for similar projects in the future," said U-Lead chairwoman Dina Almodal. The course will formally open on April 1, Torres said.

"Youths who will enroll in this program will not only acquire knowledge but also the opportunities to find jobs and earn money," she added.
