Anita Allegre, vice consul of the US Embassy took Giles’ belongings, including his passport and cash for safekeeping. Giles’ female companion, Maricel Recreo, told SPO1 Diomedes Labarda that she met Giles in Ermita and he later brought her to his hotel room where they had sex. Recreo said she initially resisted intercourse with the foreigner because of her period but he insisted. After the sexual act, the foreigner started taking photographs of the girl, who was still nude, which apparently gave him "extreme happiness," according to Labarda. The foreigner suddenly fainted, prompting Recreo to call for assistance.
