Phone thief kills chasing policeman

A policeman was shot dead while running after two robbers who stole his cell phone along Road 10 in Tondo, Manila, the other night.
Reports reaching the Western Police District identified the victim as SPO1 Raymundo Manaois, 48, married, of the Balikbayan Tourist Protection Unit based at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and a resident of 43 Basilio St., Acacia, Malabon City.
According to case investigator SPO2 Athos De Quiros, the victim and his wife Baby were aboard their jeep and were heading home at about 8:20 p.m. after attending a party at Fort Bonifacio, when the incident happened.
Police said that the couples jeep was passing through Jacinto Street in Tondo when it met heavy traffic and slowed down.
As the jeep was slowing down, the two unidentified suspects appeared and snatched the victims Nokia 3210 cellphone strapped to his belt and ran off. The victim whipped out his caliber .38 revolver and chased the suspects.
Seeing that they were being chased, one of the suspects pulled out a caliber .38 revolver and shot the victim once in the left chest. Manaois died while undergoing treatment at the Mary Johnston Hospital. Police are still tracking down the suspects. Mike Frialde
