Abalos to help rape victims
March 10, 2002 | 12:00am
Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos vowed yesterday to provide legal assistance to the three minors abducted and raped by a serial rapist in separate incidents recently.
SPO4 Juliet Espiritu, head of Mandaluyong Police Womens and Childrens Desk, revealed the mayor would also shoulder the psychiatric tests that would be conducted on the victims, aged 9, 10 and 11.
The victims were snatched from different places by Rodennis Garcia, 32, of Rianzares street, Legarda, Manila. The suspect was collared by the police last March 1.
Garcia was arrested after the nine-year old victim revealed her ordeal to her parents and identified him. The two other victims, upon seeing him on television, eventually came out in the open.
The suspect was reportedly in the habit of abducting minors and bringing them to a warehouse where he would molest them. He is facing charges of abduction with rape and robbery as he also took the necklace of one of the victims. Sheila Crisostomo
