Man stabbed dead for eating left-overs

Police arrested the other day one of eight men after they mauled and stabbed to death a 37-year-old delivery boy in Quezon City after he ate a cup of their leftover noodles.

Victim Rogelio Remegio, of 1-A Poliet St., Barangay Sangandaan, Project 8, sustained multiple stab wounds in the body and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Quezon City General Hospital.

Suspect Reynel Pita, of 23 Dividends St., GSIS Village, is currently detained at the Central Police District headquarters as he awaits charges to be filed against him. His seven still unidentified companions are now the subjects of manhunt operations being conducted by CPD operatives.

Initial reports showed that the incident took place at about 11 p.m. near a food stall in San Bartolome, Novaliches. The killers apparently were having a game of pool while eating cups of instant noodles. Remegio later passed by the said food stall on his way home. The victim reportedly was so famished and he did not have any money to buy food.

When the eight men got up to see who was winning one of their pool games, they left behind their cups of noodles on the table. Remegio immediately took his chance and took one of the cup noodles and started eating. However, the suspects saw what Remegio was doing and confronted the victim. Without warning the men ganged up on Remegio and several of them pulled out bladed weapons and repeatedly stabbed him in the chest and stomach.

Realizing what they had just done, the eight men fled the scene – leaving the bleeding Remegio sprawled on the ground. He was later brought to the hospital where he died.

Follow-up operations led to the arrest of Pita. Policemen are still trying to identify the other suspects and determine their whereabouts. Matthew Estabillo
