Rob suspect makes fatal leap in QC

After being shot in the neck by a security guard, a bleeding robbery suspect managed to get away but plunged to his death after he jumped off a five story building in Quezon City last Tuesday.

Rodel Abao, 35, of Taguig, Metro Manila, sustained a bullet wound in the neck and a broken skull after he jumped from the fifth floor of a condominium in Novaliches, and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Bernardo Hospital.

Investigators said that security guard Danilo delos Reyes caught Abao stealing a water meter from one of the residents of Smile City Homes Condominiums. He was accidentally shot after he put up a fight.

Initial reports showed that the incident occurred at about 2:45 p.m. at the condominium located in Barangay Kaligayahan, Novaliches, in Quezon City.

Abao allegedly was caught by Delos Reyes ripping-off a water meter installed in one of the resident’s homes. He was about to escort Abao to the police when he suddenly put up a fight.

A mad scramble for Delos Reyes’ shotgun ensued and Abao was hit in the right side of the neck after the firearm accidentally went off. Despite being wounded, the suspect was able to run away from the security guard. – Matthew Estabillo
