Robber to lose leg after cabbie rams him

-
Here’s a lesson for robbers.

A robbery suspect is in danger of losing one of his legs after an angry taxi driver rammed him with his vehicle minutes after he and his three companions robbed the former yesterday of his P2,000 day’s earnings in Pasig City.

Two of the robbers’ escaping companions were also arrested by a responding security guard.

The robber, Diego Corpin, 20, of 6-A 7th St., Broadway Barangay, Mariana, Quezon City sustained broken bones in both feet. The injury was so bad that doctors at the Rizal Medical Center, where Corpin was rushed, are closely monitoring which of his legs would be amputated, said Superintendent John Sosito, Pasig City police chief.

Sosito said Corpin and his three companions boarded the taxi cab (plate number PWD 865) driven by Serbeato Capangpangan, 29, in Cubao, Quezon City at about 12:30 a.m. yesterday. The suspects asked Capangpangan to take them to Angono, Rizal. But upon reaching F. Legarda St., Barangay Maybunga in Pasig City, Corpin and his companions pulled out their guns and knives and announced a hold-up. They rushed out of the vehicle after divesting Capangpangan of his P2,000 earnings.

But while Corpin and his companions were casually walking away, Capangpangan started the engine of his taxi and drove towards them. He rammed his vehicle onto the unsuspecting Corpin, who was thrown some two meters away upon impact.

Upon seeing their fallen comrade, the three robbers scampered for safety. However, an alert security guard, Ricardo Cordova, of the LG Coolins Electronics cornered two of them. They were identified as Corpin’s cousin, Efren, and Diosdado Victoria, both 21 years old and residing at the same address as Corpin.

Sosito said they are now hunting down their fourth companion, a certain Louie Mercado, 18.

Sosito said the three suspects admitted the charges against them.

While Corpin’s fate hangs in the air, his cousin and Victoria are presently detained at the Pasig City police detention center.

Sosito said they are readying robbery charges against the three suspects in the city prosecutor’s office. – Non Alquitran
