1st Gentleman leads free eye operation for poor

A total of 31 poor people from various areas in Metro Manila and nearby provinces have undergone free cataract operations at the Presidential Security Group (PSG) Hospital in Malacañang Park courtesty of the office of First Gentleman Mike Arroyo.
The beneficiaries were operated on by a team of opthalmologists headed by Dr. Benjamin Abela Jr., who practices at the Makati Medical Center, and Dr. Frederico Malubay of Malacañang Clinic. They came from the cities of Manila, Quezon, Caloocan, Pasay, Antipolo and Pasig, Navotas town and the provinces of Rizal, Cavite, Bulacan and Quezon.
Aside from the free eye surgery, the patients were also provided intra-ocular lenses, medicines, and pre and post-operative examinations at the Malacañang Clinic. The monthly free cataract operation is one of the charity projects of the First Gentleman for the poor. Others include free legal and medical missions.
