SK pushes for youth elections’ postponement

-
The Sangguniang Kabataan Federation in Quezon City appealed to Congress yesterday to postpone the scheduled youth elections after at least eight barangays failed to produce a single registered voter.

According to SK Federation chairman Marvin Rillo, there are also 28 barangays in the city with only eight registered voters, "making it impossible to complete the eight positions of the SK Council." Quezon City has 142 barangays, all of which registered record lows in voter turnout for the scheduled youth elections on May 6. Rillos had asked Congress to postpone the elections because of the above-cited reasons.

The city’s four districts have at least 60,000 registered voters in the last elections, but now the number has dwindled to less than 10,000. Matthew Estabillo
