Dad killed, son hurt in family feud
January 29, 2002 | 12:00am
A family feud turned bloody when a retired seaman and his two sons gunned down a 59-year-old contractor and his son inside a house in Quezon City Sunday.
Suspect Nathaniel Lumaque, 27, of 24 Purok 4-B Luzon Avenue, Barangay Culiat was arrested and is now detained at the Central Police District headquarters awaiting charges.
His father Narciso Lumaque, 50, and brother Joel Lumaque, 32, also of the same address, escaped after the shooting incident.
Victim Eduardo Maestre, also of Luzon Avenue, Barangay Culiat, sustained bullet wounds in the head and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Malvar General Hospital.
Eduardos son Ronnie, 36, a barangay official, was hit in the leg and body and is undergoing medical treatment at the East Avenue Medical Center.
Investigators said that the two families have been giving each other the cold shoulder ever since the pet dog of the Lumaque family bit one of Eduardos grandsons last month.
The feud turned ugly when Ronnie and his younger brother Ramir were allegedly threatened with handguns by Narciso and his son Nathaniel about 6:30 p.m. at a basketball court near their home.
When Ronnie got home, he reported the incident to his father, who then suggested that they go over to the Lumaques to "sort things out." But when Eduardo and Roonie arrived, the Lumaques berated the father and his son.
A heated argument ensued and Joel pulled out a hand gun and allegedly after hearing his fathers instructions to fire, shot the Maestres. Matthew Estabillo
