Houseboy slashes throat of retired bank exec

- Matthew Estabillo -
A houseboy slashed the throat of a retired executive of the Central Bank of the Philippines after he was scolded by the victim for putting sugar in his coffee the other night in Quezon City.

Rizalino Mendoza, 85, said to be a former executive of the Central Bank and a resident of Barangay Mariana, New Manila, sustained a deep gash in the throat and died inside his home.

The killer, reportedly a houseboy of Mendoza, fled after the incident. Investigators said the assailant started working for Mendoza only a few days ago.

Initial investigation showed that the killing took place at about 11:30 p.m. inside the victim’s house at 30 Doña Juana S. Rodriguez Avenue, Barangay Mariana in New Manila.

Reports said that Mendoza berated the houseboy because he had put sugar in his coffee – which the victim did not prefer. Angered at his employer, the killer got a knife and slashed the unsuspecting Mendoza’s throat.

The killer immediately fled the scene, leaving the bleeding Mendoza sprawled on the floor. When the victim’s maid returned home from an errand, she found the house locked.

After several attempts to break down the door, she and another houseboy called up the police. Elements of the Central Police District found Mendoza dead on the floor.

Investigators ruled out robbery as no valuables were missing. They are now conducting follow-up operations to determine the killer’s identity and whereabouts.
