YOU officer snubs probe
January 12, 2002 | 12:00am
Young Officers Union (YOU) chairman Raphael Cardeno snubbed police summons yesterday to share information on the killing of Baron Cervantes, becoming the only one to do so among the five rightist group members linked to the case.
Cardeno was the fourth person invited in succession to shed light on their involvement in the case. The first three others, YOU co-founder Superintendent Diosdado Valeroso, RAM-YOU spokesman Proceso Maligalig, and another YOU co-founder Superintendent Romeo Lim all had earlier faced investigators at the Southern Police District (SPD) headquarters.
SPD director Chief Superintendent Jose Gutierrez expressed his dismay over Cardenos snub of their summons but said he respected the police officers decision.
The fifth and last invitee, former Land Transportation Office (LTO) head, retired Gen. Edgardo Abenina, is expected on Monday. Jose Aravilla
