2 killed, 5 hurt in family feud

- Matthew Estabillo -
A flippant remark during a New Year’s Eve celebration resulted in a rumble between two families that left two people dead and five others injured in Quezon City.

Cesar Moreno, 35, of 102 Road 20, Barangay Bahay Toro, and his relative Frago Lucino, 23, of the same address, sustained fatal wounds in the body and died on the spot.

Bienvenido Moreno, Efren Reyes, 36, his live-in partner Gina Lucino, Rogelio Moreno, and Marcelo Sevilla, all of the same address, sustained injuries and are currently confined at the Quezon City Hospital.

According to reports, the incident took place at about 12:30 a.m. inside a compound in Barangay Bahay Toro.

Police said the Morenos and Reyeses were having separate drinking sessions inside the compound. Cesar, whose common-law-wife is the daughter of Reyes and Lucino, was already drunk at the time.

After ringing in the new year, Reyes and Lucino reportedly told Cesar that he was a "bad husband" to their daughter. This reportedly angered Moreno and a heated altercation ensued among them.

Soon, the Morenos and Reyes’ other relatives were involved in the argument.

Police said at one point, Cesar pulled out a hunting knife and lunged at Efren and Gina. The two were stabbed in the body.

Gina’s nephew Frago then took a fan knife and began stabbing Moreno in the back.

Cesar’s brother Bienvenido then came to his rescue and stabbed Frago with an ice pick.

Frago’s second cousin Sevilla and Rogelio Moreno were also injured in the melee. Gina then took a lead pipe and bludgeoned Cesar on the head which caused his death.

Frago suffered fatal stab wounds and died on the spot. The others were later taken to the hospital by concerned neighbors.

Ironically, Cesar’s common-law-wife, who was the primary cause of the rumble, was not present at the time.
