2 Comelec workers bare cash offer to kill Cinco

Two employees of the Commission on Elections have surfaced at the National Bureau of Investigation claiming they had been offered P100,000 each to kill deceased Comelec information chief Velma Cinco.

According to NBI sources, the two Comelec employees claimed to have been approached last September by a former Comelec officer who offered them the amount in exchange for Cinco’s death.

The NBI sources said the two Comelec employees turned down the offer. NBI agents handling the case said they would still have to verify and cross check the allegation of the two Comelec employees whose identities were withheld pending investigation.

Cinco, 62, was ambushed and shot dead by two motorcycle-riding men while on her way to the Comelec headquarters on Nov. 20.

NBI director Reynaldo Wycoco earlier said the murder was "work related."

The NBI and the Western Police District have earlier arrested Conrado Robles, a suspect in the case and charged him with illegal possession of firearm, murder and frustrated murder. They have also invited for questioning Ricardo Tumambing and Rodolfo Fortich, former Comelec casual employees in relation to the case. Both denied participation in the murder. – Mike Frialde
