4 Malaysians arrested in raid of plant making fake CDs

Police arrested six persons, four of them Malaysian nationals, and confiscated from them P50-million worth of machines used in the manufacture of fake CDs and VCDs during a raid in Pasig City.

Pasig City police chief Superintendent John Sosito identified those arrested as Ng Koh Wah, 23; Shing Yoke, 22; Kaw Chin, 39 and Hong Yhean, 40, all Malaysian nationals and Filipinos Rizalino Ibañez, 41, an electrician and Melvin Fernando, 25, a driver.

The four Malaysians were stay-in workers at the Evergrow Enterprises located at 20 Sgt. Pascua St., Barangay Bagong Ilog. The raid came after residents tipped off the police about the syndicate believed behind the proliferation of the fake products in the local market.

The police recovered two plastic injection molding machines worth P18 million each, and some fake software used in the manufacture of pirated CDs and VCDs.

Using the high-tech equipment, the syndicate can manufacture fake CDs and VCDs in 20 seconds, police said. — Non Alquitran
