A policeman was arrested after he shot dead an 18 year-old boy during an apparent gun duel in Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City last Sunday.
Victim Benjamin Briguillo, of San Roque Compound, Barangay Pasong Tamo, was shot and was pronounced dead on arrival at the New Era Hospital.
Suspect PO2 Jerry Villamor is currently detained at the Central Police District headquarters as he awaits charges.
Initial reports showed that the incident took place at about 7:10 p.m. in a jeepney terminal on Commonwealth Avenue near Quirino Highway, Quezon City.
Briguillo and some of his friends apparently had an argument with another group of boys. The victim, armed with a homemade shotgun fired his weapon but hit no one.
Responding policemen Villamor and his partner PO2 Jose Angelo immediately arrived on the scene and demanded that Briguillo drop his weapon and surrender.
The victim fired a shot at the cops but missed. This prompted Villamor to pull out his firearm and engage in a gun duel with the teenager. Briguillo was later hit in the right side of his body. He was rushed to the hospital where he expired at about 7:20 p.m. Villamor gave himself up to authorities. Matthew Estabillo
