Speeding tricycle kills trader

A Filipino-Chinese trader was killed after she was rammed by a speeding tricycle whose driver, witnesses told police probers, was racing with other tricycles in Malabon City Sunday afternoon.

City police chief Superintendent Ernesto Fojas Jr. identified the fatality as Margarita Lu, 49, a businesswoman residing in Barangay Maysilo.

Lu suffered multiple head and body injuries and died before reaching the Pagamutang Lunsod ng Malabon where she was taken after the incident.

Tricycle driver Roy Recha, 21, a Caloocan resident, was arrested by policemen while attempting to escape.

Investigation showed the victim was crossing Lapu-Lapu Avenue at around 5:30 p.m. when she was hit by Recha’s speeding tricycle.

Witnesses said the suspect was driving his tricycle at a high speed as he raced with other tricycle drivers along the avenue.

Police investigation said Recha hit the victim while he was trying to overtake another tricycle.

Witnesses said the victim was thrown on impact and landed several meters away from the point of collision.

Recha is now detained pending the filing of charges of homicide through reckless imprudence against him. Jerry Botial
