NBI raids QC, Manila counterfeiters

Simultaneous anti-piracy raids were conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation’s Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) on three establishments in Quezon City and Manila over the weekend.

Acting on complaints of General Electric Company and Gillete Philippines of unfair competition and trademark infringement, the NBI’s IPRD special agents conducted surveillance on Jade Tree Enterprises owned by Katherine Monzon at 73 Lorraine St., Parkway Village, Quezon City, and several business establishments in Manila’s City Plaza Mall (Shi Meiya Phil Xing Xin trading Corp.) and Stall B-40-41 at the Carriedo Center.

After thorough surveillance of the establishments and gathering of evidence to prove probable cause of violation of Section 155 in relation to Section 170 of R.A. 8293 (trademark infringement), NBI operatives obtained a search warrant from Judge Antonio Eugenio Jr. of the National Capital Judicial Region and swooped down on the establishments.

A large cache of fake Gillete Rubie razors was seized by IPRD agents in the Manila establishments while sales invoices, delivery receipts, official receipts and other documents used in selling product imitations of "G.E." circuit breaker were seized from Jade Tree Enterprise in Quezon City. –Wilfredo Suarez
